MILAN - Misano circuit in Italy will be renamed to commemorate the rider Marco Simoncelli who died in Malaysia last month was.
Simoncelli during his stay in Cattolica, which is about eight kilometers from the circuit.
"We are proud of this circuit is now named Marco Simoncelli. He is a great figure, both in everyday life as well as a racer," said Luca Colaiacovo, director of the circuit, as quoted by the BBC.
Misano MotoGP race held since 2007 and for organizing this year was won by Jorge Lorenzo.
Simoncelli, a member of the Honda team, was fourth but now his name not be separated from the circuit.
"This name change as a tribute to his family and hundreds of thousands of fans Simoncelli, humanist and daring riders," added Colaiacovo.
"I would like to thank the family and told them I would say that Simoncelli will continue to be with us forever," he said.
Italian Honda team manager Fausto Gresini, said that while all parties feel the deep sorrow caused by death Simoncelli, MotoGP race season should be continued.
"This decision is not easy. But we sure would not want to race Simoncelli canceled. Fall back into the arena of our racing is the best way to remember him," said Gresini.
